North American Crane Quiz

The Annual Midwest Crane Count is occurring on April 15, 2023. The count started in 1976 to locate and quantify the number of sandhill cranes in Columbia County, Wisconsin as the population rebounded from a nadir in the early 1900s. Sandhill cranes have been tallied in Illinois since 1995 when five counties were involved. In 2022, there were nearly 500 sandhill cranes (and three whooping cranes!) located in 22 Illinois counties. This quiz is geared to prepare counters for the upcoming count in two weeks or for those who just want to learn more about cranes. Let’s go!
